More Painting and Wildlife

 We painted some more at Little Frog Ranch today and are almost finished!  We touched up some areas of the white walls, and started on the pine ceiling and walls.  Next up will be the trim work.

The ceiling looks great with the polyurethane coat!  

The lighting in the bathroom is a little different than the main room so it looks darker here than on the main ceiling.  But it is really nice in person!

Outside, we were worried that my favorite cactus under my favorite tree was dying.  It definitely needs some attention.

We need to learn more about how to keep a cactus healthy...

We were excited to find new areas of growth, so it's not dying after all!  

We enjoy checking the cameras to see what type of wildlife is roaming around.

Painting

 We painted the "white" walls so they would actually be white and hide the wood putty and random dirt (even a shoe print!)  It came out well!  We may have to add a second coat, but we need to let it dry to be sure.

While we were there, we had an appointment to get a quote to replace the front fence.  Last year someone hit it, and it really needs replacing.  We would also like a nicer driveway entrance. Once the front fence and driveway entrance are completed, we have plenty of other projects on the land to be taken care of.  (more fencing issues, animal shelter, better well house, etc...)  There's plenty to be done at Little Frog Ranch!

Internet and Walls

We've been looking at internet options for Little Frog Ranch.  Getting high speed internet in the country is a challenge, until we discovered Starlink!  We recently put down a deposit to get Starlink internet service when it becomes available in the fall in our area.  Then to our great surprise, it made news this week when the satellites were spotted entering orbit.  Check out this article for more information at SpaceNews.  We are excited to be able to get broadband internet, ready to go!

In the meantime, we're still working on the cabin walls.  The shiplap look really seemed like an easy thing to do compared to drywall, but it turned out to be a little more work than expected.  We have to put wood putty on all of the holes before painting it so it will look nice when finished.

Kitchen and Bathroom

 The Kitchen and Bathroom are really coming along!

I love that the sink is right under the window!  We will most likely paint the kitchen cabinet.  We will also put a piece of trim to clean up the transition area to the living room with the white wall.  

The water works!  We will add an under-the-sink soap dispenser to the extra opening.

The bathroom sink and toilet also have running water!  However, the toilet is not usable yet.  It currently flushes straight to the outside!  We need to attach it to our DIY septic system in order to use it.  However, that is a big project for another day.   

This will be the shower area.

Random photo of the day.  After we had been there awhile today, I finally noticed there was a lawnmower in the middle of the cabin.  Yes, a lawn mower, inside the cabin.  Go figure!

The Wall

 We have a wall!  An interior wall was needed to separate the bathroom from the rest of the cabin.  You can see the progression below.  But first, a picture of today's view!

When we tried to order more white boards for the walls, there were none to be found.  So we had to do the kitchen and bathroom areas in the pine that matches the ceiling.  We'll put some trim to make the transition smoother between the kitchen and the rest of the cabin.  The flooring will change at that same point as well. The main living area, including bedroom area, will have carpet, but the kitchen and bath will have something else for flooring, just not sure what yet.   

There is still so much work to do!  Trim work will keep us busy for awhile.  We will also add a barn door to the bathroom.  

Wildlife

Since we added the wildlife camera, we have been able to see so many different animals at Little Frog Ranch when we're not around!  (note: the dates/times are not accurate)

Looks like the wild hogs have been through here.  Our neighbors have seen them in action. 

And it sounds like our namesake is back!  We haven't heard them in awhile, but this guy was loud and clear today.  We were unable to see him, but turn up the volume and you can hear it!

Cabin Update

The cabin is really coming along! There is still a great deal of work to be done, but it's all moving in the right direction.

All of the electricity is working!  The ceiling is finished.  We will paint the walls and put crown moulding up soon. We will also put moulding/trim on the ceiling where the board sections meet.  

This is the kitchen area.  We have the kitchen cabinet and counter ready to install.  Today we checked the water and it worked great!

The water heater and water filtration system are looking good!  We had to replace the water filtration system after Snovid21 (the blue canister thing).  It was the only thing that froze and burst during the storm.  The rest of the water pipes were well insulated!
